This car is easily comparable to any late model low mile well taken care of original Carrera out there at any price. It runs, drives and stops incredible, in fact, much better than any late model Carrera I have ever owned or drove. The roar and acceleration of this well sorted, smog exempt 2.7L motor coupled with the lower gearing of 75's 915 trans is the essence of the Porsche driving experience. Exhilarating!
The interior is in superb original condition. Period Recaro sport seats, a period Nardi wheel, restored dash, restored visors, new carpets, and unfortunately, aftermarket speakers in the doors, are the only deviation from factory original. The rear seats and shelf are in remarkable un-warped condition.
The exterior is very straight. Like an arrow. Flawless lines, gaps and fitments. With no bodywork, or rust repair needed it was completely disassembled earlier this year for a repaint in it's original Silver Metallic (code # 936). Reason for paint was in large part due to the prior owners having it painted without disassembling it a year prior (2005). It was the cars 1st respray and simply not good enough for this car. Much attention to detail was taken this time. The most unobtrusive routes were taken to preserve this cars incredible original condition. Pictures of the car before paint, and stripped for paint included with records. Car was reassembled with great care and is spotless inside and out, wheel wells to undercarriage. Every item was meticulously cleaned, restored or replaced as needed before replacement ( light fixtures, windshield, weatherstrip, gaskets, horns, bumper rubbers, lenses, fog lights, interior, rockers, bumpers, valances, quarters, and on, and on…).
It has yet to see it's first rock chip, scratch, etc, and is showroom beautiful.
Original tool kit is complete, and well preserved. Original owners manual, jack, spare, 1975 dealer brochure, and 74/75 32 page options catalog are in mint condition.
In the spirit of full disclosure:
1.) Although the paint and body are outstanding, there is an ever slight amount of ‘fisheye” in the paint in some areas, only noticeable up close (inches, not feet away) and in certain lighting. Nothing I can capture in digital form. Let me reassure though, the overall appearance is even, consistent, smooth, straight and beautiful. 2.) The car has developed a very slight oil leak when sitting that I have not identified or have had looked into. The car runs incredibly strong and has great oil pressure. Having just been rebuilt 8K miles ago, I’m sure the source of this leak can be taken care of if desired. It simply hasn’t been a priority or bother for me. 3.) The hand throttle is disconnected, and that is just a personal preference.
Any item found to be unacceptable or undisclosed about this car , I will either discount or correct. I am confident the new owner will find this car to be even better than advertised. If not, I will not hold an unhappy party liable to purchase, and will only expect the listing fees to be covered.
With fall upon us now, and the higher frequency of 74/75 Carrera listings this summer (no doubt the result of growing, all be it long overdue, appreciation for these cars as the rarest of all Porsche production models) I hesitate to even offer the car right now. That being said, I have set a very realistic reserve, below what the majority of lesser examples have been selling at or listing for.
If the car fails to sell, feel free to contact me after the auction with questions or interest. As with any collector item in premium condition, urgency is not a condition of this sale and I am always up for Porsche conversation. Or, look for the car again in the spring with a seasonally adjusted reserve. Thanks much for looking.
